Noah ringer4/3/2023 ![]() ![]() You've basically summed up my own feelings on the matter. I could go on about what I think of people's ability to discern a person's race judging from my own experience, but what do you guys think? What are your reasons to believe that Ringer is white/half-Asian/Asian/etc? But it doesn't change the other problems with this film (Sohka and Katara being the most glaring ones). If Noah Ringer does turn out to be half-Asian, that's great. So why not say it? Why not say he's mixed and diminish the racebending movement even further? The production team has never said outright that Noah Ringer is half-Asian, even as their fanbase clearly believes that, if it were true, it would shut us up. Night is able to point concretely to a "Chinese Sokka and Katara," an "Ecuadorian" Zuko, and to Jessica Andres as a "mix of Filipino." Night say, more affirmatively, if Ringer was mixed. Night to find out the truth of Ringer's ethnic background: he could've asked Ringer over the several months they spent making this film, or asked/seen Ringer's parents. Night (and apparently a lot of people), Ringer looks "slightly mixed." He specifically gives it as an opinion ("to me"), not as a fact. And it kind of goes with the nomadic culture and the idea that over the years, all nationalities came together.(emphasis mine) So when you see the monks, they are all mixed. So I cast the Airbenders as all mixed-race. I didn't know their backgrounds, and to me Noah had a slightly mixed quality to him. I was without an agenda, and just letting it come to the table. Night says about Ringer in his interview: So they'll brag about the ethnic background of "Earthbending Boy" but not about the guy playing Aang?Įvidence #2: When MANAA directly confronted Paramount about casting in TLA, they didn't bring it up then either.Įvidence #3: Here's what M. "American actress of Italian, French and Mexican heritage" = Seychelle Gabriel "a Korean-American actor, born and raised in Chicago" = Isaac Jin Solstein "Maori actor born and raised in New Zealand" = Cliff Curtis "Persian actor born in Tehran and raised in the UK, Switzerland and the US" = Shaun Toub "Indian actor, born in Mumbai and raised in the UK and the US" = Aasif Mandvi They will tout their other actors' backgrounds, but not Ringer's and that, to me, is fishy.Įvidence #1: In Paramount's Response to MANAA, the studio showcases their diversity by listing the backgrounds of several of their actors:Įarly casting includes an Indian actor, born in Mumbai and raised in the UK and the US a Persian actor born in Tehran and raised in the UK, Switzerland and the US a Maori actor born and raised in New Zealand a Korean-American actor, born and raised in Chicago an American actress of Italian, French and Mexican heritage among several others of varied nationalities from around the world. It still comes down to the simple fact that, as the protagonist/titular character/focus of the movie, Paramount has not bothered to tout Ringer's supposed- Asian heritage at any point in time. I would argue, however, that there is ample evidence to believe that he is white. ![]() Since the video from KCA came out, the rumors that Noah Ringer is half-Asian are back in full force.
